The Shaw Prize and the Asian News Awards 2022

The Shaw Prize is an international award that recognizes and rewards excellence in research among elite scientists across three categories – astronomy, life science/medicine/mathematics and mathematical sciences. The Prize serves as an outstanding source of recognition and prestige for these researchers and their institutions, and can serve as a powerful catalyst to promote closer ties between Hong Kong universities, science centres, academic institutes and other nations around the world. This year’s ceremony in Hong Kong on 1 July marks its inaugural awarding here! This event will be organized jointly by The Shaw Prize Foundation and Hong Kong Science Museum to honor excellence among Asian academic institutions!

On Friday evening at this year’s Hong Kong News Awards 2022 ceremony, South China Morning Post reporters received 12 prizes at this year’s Hong Kong News Awards 2022 ceremony. Kate Li Bingcun won first prize in the Best Arts and Culture News Reporting category for her three-part series about Hong Kong’s journey towards becoming an international cultural hub, described by judges as both refreshing and creative – an indispensable record of our city’s rich heritage.

The South China Morning Post made significant strides in science reporting this year, with reporter Sammy Heung and news editor Harvey Kong each winning Best Science News Reporting and Best Business News Writing (English) awards respectively. Overall, over the past 13 years this newspaper has garnered 113 awards, 10 in 2022 alone!
