Bush Telegraph

Our focus shifts to South Africa in the next few weeks where we’ll be researching and photographing for our rhino project in the country that’s been hardest hit by the poaching crisis. South Africa has lost 227 rhinos already this year. We hope to blog from our travels on a range of key issues including the anti-poaching units working on the frontline in the African bush; the scientific and technological breakthroughs being used to combat poaching and the growing debate around legalising the trade in rhino horn and the ‘farming’ of rhino.

We’ll be talking to the guys on the ground dealing daily with the constant danger; spending time with communities that are coming together to protect their rhinos and finding out about some of the innovative things game rangers are doing to raise funds to help. It goes without saying of course that we’ll try to fit in lots of rhino-watching in some of the country’s best-known game reserves too.

While our focus will be keenly trained on the terrible threat these animals face, we hope to spend time enjoying these amazing creatures, trying our best, through our pictures, to celebrate just what makes them special and worth fighting for. You can follow our reports and catch some of our images here and on the project’s facebook page.
